Lucky bastard !

I was hoping to stop by on my way through Vic yesterday but couldn't make it work. I'm curious how Zhukenov looks, last year he was one of the standouts for me and I thought he had a pretty impressive year in the Q.

I'm surprised you didn't have an opinion on the current economy as well. It has become more and more expensive to live and to pay that much to go see a hockey game is ridiculous let alone the overpriced refreshments. Costs continue to rise and anyone who does have the money to go to the game doesn't want to because we aren't any good right now. I think you nailed it with the downward spiral we have been on since 2011. Gillis just completely (frank)ed us when we traded Luongo and Schneider. The new management team was changed too late I think and the business side of things suffered badly. Things aren't complete doom and gloom though but there are so many factors and you covered them well.

It's a downturn in business. That's all. All businesses go through downturns. It's not unique to the canucks. In no way does it signal disaster. Smart business people plan for such events.

Vancouver is becoming an international city. We have to stop thinking of Vancouver as a west coast canadian city. The cost of living is in line with other similar cities. It's just out of whack for canadian cities other than toronto.

The cost of a canuck game is not that bad. It's not even the most expensive in the NHL. I had season tickets (two seats) for about 14 years and the price per seat went from roughly $39 to $49 per seat during that time. That's for the best hockey in the world. You won't find any better.

In comparison, I paid $30 to go see a MLS game. WTF? Way too much for a middling product. The MLS might not even be in the top 50 soccer leagues in the world. What am I paying for?

What's the average price for a seat at a BPL match? NFL? NBA?

Vancouverites still have a small town canadian mentality. This ain't Kansas anymore Dorothy. We have to stop thinking like poor people.

some posters don't seem to grasp that the market won't support a long Toronto style rebuild
- CanuckDon

Horsepoop. Back your statement up.

How are you so sure our fan base would not support years and years of mediocrity? Because from where I stand our fans have done exactly that.

Winning two regular season championships and getting to the scf fourth round isn't mediocrity. Toronto style mediocrity is never, NEVER getting to the fourth round of the tournament, or winning a regular season championship.

I believe the price of tickets is very reasonable..the only thing that pisses me off is terrible food and over priced beer.

Well I have no idea where you (frank)ing stand (far away from the arena apparently) but the stadium was empty last season and we were one season removed from the playoffs. I went to approx. 30 games. At one point I purchased 20 seats together for $250 Mediocrity? We have had a great team for the majority of the decade. Not to mention you can hear a pin drop in the stadium.

Thats the case with every stadium/event though. I think its common practice that its $7-8+ for a beer depending on domestic/import/craft, plus considerable markup on all concession items. I was at Wimbledon last weekend and had a Pimm's for 8.50 pounds and a small bowl of strawberries with cream for 4.50 pounds. I've avoided looking at the converted values...

Would love to be at the development camp again this year but just cant fit it into my schedule (damn, it is only 10 minutes from here). Looking at a bit of history:

Was at camp last year. Standouts then were:
1) McCann for his shot - I am sure there must be holes in the boards still. The planned games off for development last year obviously were for remedial instruction on the purpose of a net.
2) Stewart for his presence - When he was on the ice, everyone knew it. Too bad he got such a late start to playing hockey. If he had the 6 or 8 extra playing years that everyone else had then maybe he would be more instinctive in using that extra 10 feet of space that his presence gave him.
3) Subban for his attempted Bure imitation - Successfully skated around every player on ice 5 times before falling flat on his face.....
4) Jasek for his talent level - overall best player on the ice. Fast, dynamic, always dangerous. Where Subban tried hard to be Bure, Jasek really looked like Bure. Needed to work on strength. 99 lbs just doesn't cut it in todays NHL

So I guess McCann failed remedial net, Stewart still needs another 5 to 7 years, Subban sounds like he is starting to figure out how to stay on feet, and Jasek is a big black hole.

Any thoughts on how Jasek looks this year at camp? Based on last year I have extremely high hopes for him.

Thanks Carol for the new blog as it seems like the group is going into wild discussions about business, world politics, real estate, stuff I wanted to get away from coming into here.

Surprised that Santorelli didn't sign a deal somewhere in the NHL on another 1 year energy type of contract.

Wimbledon was worth every penny though
